Needle Position Error in Embroidery Machine: Causes and How to Solve It
A Needle Position Error is a common problem in computerized embroidery machines.
When this error appears, the machine may stop suddenly and not allow you to start embroidery.
Don't worry. In many cases, you can do some basic checks before calling a technician.
What Does Needle Position Error Mean?
Simply, it means the machine's computer is not getting the correct needle or main-shaft position.
The machine needs to know the exact position of the needle before it can start or continue embroidery.
How to Solve Needle Position Error
Step 1: Stop the Machine
First, stop the machine completely.
Switch OFF the main power before checking anything around the needle and machine head.
Step 2: Check for Any Obstruction
Look around the needle area and check if:
Thread is stuck
Fabric is stuck
Needle is bent
Any part is touching the needle
Something is blocking the movement
Remove only what you can safely remove.
Never force the machine.
Step 3: Check the Needle
Look at the needle carefully.
If the needle is bent, damaged, or not fitted correctly, replace it with the correct needle.
Then check whether the needle moves normally.
Step 4: Check the Machine Position
Sometimes the machine stops in the wrong position.
If your machine has a needle/main-shaft position or reset function, use the normal reset procedure provided for your machine.
Do not randomly change machine settings.
Step 5: Restart the Machine
Switch OFF the machine and wait for a few seconds.
Then switch it ON again.
Check whether the error disappears.
Step 6: Try a Slow Test
If the error has disappeared, don't immediately start production at high speed.
Run the machine slowly and check:
Needle movement
Stitching
Unusual noise
Thread breaking
Any hitting or vibration
If everything is normal, production can continue.
If the Error Comes Again
If the Needle Position Error keeps coming back, the problem may not be just the needle.
It could be related to the machine's:
Position sensor
Main-shaft movement
Motor
Wiring or connection
Controller system
At this stage, it is better to call an experienced embroidery-machine technician.
Important: Don't Do This
When this error appears, don't:
❌ Force the needle or main shaft
❌ Hit or move machine parts roughly
❌ Change controller settings randomly
❌ Keep restarting the machine repeatedly
❌ Continue production if the needle is hitting something
These actions can turn a small problem into a bigger repair.
Quick Troubleshooting Checklist
Needle Position Error →
Stop machine
Switch OFF power
Check needle
Check for stuck thread or obstruction
Check machine position
Restart machine
Run a slow test
If error returns → call technician
A needle-position error should not be ignored.
The machine needs accurate positioning to coordinate the needle movement, hook movement, trimming and embroidery operation.
If the error appears repeatedly, find the actual reason instead of simply resetting the machine every time.
When an embroidery machine shows an error, don't panic and don't start changing settings randomly.
First check the simple things.
If the problem continues, get it checked properly. A few minutes of troubleshooting can save hours of unnecessary machine downtime.
