Common Computer Errors in Embroidery Machines and How to Solve Them

Modern embroidery machines use a computer/controller to control designs, needles, speed, thread trimming and machine movement.

Sometimes the machine stops and shows an error on the display. Don't panic. Many computer errors can be solved with a few basic checks.

Here are some common errors and what you can do.

1. Memory Full Error

Problem:The machine cannot save or load a new embroidery design.

Possible reason:Too many designs are stored in the machine memory.

Solution:Delete unwanted old designs and try loading the design again.

2. USB / Design Loading Error

Problem:The machine cannot read the design from the USB.

Possible reason:

  • USB problem

  • Wrong design format

  • File is damaged

  • Design name/file structure is not supported

Solution:Try another USB or another design file. Make sure the design is saved in the correct format supported by your machine.

3. Design Read / Communication Error

Problem:The design does not transfer correctly from the computer or USB to the machine.

Solution:

First, stop the machine and check the USB/connection.

Then restart the controller and try loading the design again.

If the problem continues with different designs, the issue may be related to the controller, USB port or communication system.

4. Needle Position Error

Problem:The machine shows a needle-position or main-shaft error.

Possible reason:The main shaft has not reached its correct position.

Solution:

Stop the machine and check whether anything is physically blocking the needle or main-shaft movement.

If there is no obstruction but the error continues, the encoder or positioning system may need to be checked by a technician.

5. Frame / X-Y Movement Error

Problem:The machine shows an X/Y movement or frame error.

Possible reason:

  • Frame has reached its limit

  • Something is blocking frame movement

  • Design is outside the working area

  • Sensor or motor problem

Solution:

Check that the embroidery frame can move freely.

Also check whether the design size is suitable for the selected frame.

Never force the frame by hand.

6. Emergency Stop Error

Problem:The machine shows an emergency-stop error even when you want to start production.

Solution:

Check all emergency-stop buttons and make sure they are properly released.

Then reset the machine and try again.

If the error remains, the emergency-stop switch or its wiring may need inspection.

7. Power / Voltage Error

Problem:The controller shows a power-related error or suddenly restarts.

Possible reason:Unstable power supply, loose connection or an issue in the machine's electrical system.

Solution:

Stop the machine and check the power supply.

If voltage fluctuation happens regularly, use the appropriate protection system recommended for your machine.

For repeated power errors, call a qualified technician.

8. System or Controller Error

Problem:The screen freezes, becomes abnormal, or shows a system error.

Basic solution:

  1. Stop the machine.

  2. Switch OFF the main power.

  3. Wait for a short time.

  4. Switch the machine ON again.

  5. Check whether the error disappears.

If the same error repeatedly comes back, don't keep restarting the machine again and again. The controller, board, sensor or electrical system may need checking.

Before Calling a Technician

When an error appears, first note:

  • Exact error message or error number

  • What the machine was doing when the error appeared

  • Whether the error appears every time

  • Whether it started after a power cut or maintenance

Take a photo of the error screen. This can help the technician understand the problem faster.

Don't treat every computer error as a computer problem.

In an embroidery machine, the computer/controller receives information from many parts such as sensors, motors, encoders and switches.

So sometimes the screen shows an error, but the actual problem is mechanical or electrical.

The correct approach is:

Read the error → check the basic things → reset if appropriate → test → call a technician if the error returns.

And most importantly, don't change machine parameters or controller settings randomly. One wrong setting can create a bigger problem.

A computer error does not always mean a major problem.

Stay calm, read the exact error, check the basic causes first, and avoid unnecessary adjustments. This simple approach can save both time and machine downtime.
